Jade 'Dragon and Phoenix', Eastern Zhou Dynasty Warring States Period (475-221 B.C.)
Carved from a large piece of sea-green jade, the dragon is depicted in profile with a phoenix head emerging from its arched, S-shaped body. Each side is decorated with elevated comma spirals. The dragon is carved as a sinuous figure with a backwards-turned head, incised eyes, and a bifurcated tail.
