An exquisite heart scarab from the Third Intermediate Period to Late Period (c. 1069-332 B.C.). Crafted from rare blue paste glass or frit, the central heart scarab has 6 holes and is missing its original wings, which would have been bound to its sides. Winged scarabs like this were typically placed beneath a mummy's wrappings, positioned over the chest near the heart. These amulets were seen as spiritual instruments to ensure the rebirth of the deceased.
